OUR STORY

Permaculture:  Consciously designed landscapes which mimic the patterns and relationships found in nature, while yielding an abundance of food, fibre and energy for provision of local needs.

Porini Permaculture was established in 2016 after many years of planting, learning and dreaming.

It is a space for anyone at anytime - a hub for like-minded people to come together to work, rest and engage.

We run a number of different courses, workshops and PermaBlitz events, offer accommodation and are working hard to create a place for those that proactively believe in a better tomorrow.

Joannah Stutchbury has spent the majoroty of her career in the art department working on feature films.

In between shoots however, she could always be found in the garden growing a billion different types of herbs for sale in and around Nairobi !

Joannah did her first PDC with Warren Brush at the Nyumbani Childrens Home, Kitui, Kenya in 2010 followed by a stint at Quail Springs, California where she did a PDC for International Development followed by her Permaculture Training of Trainers certificate under Warren Brush.

In 2014 together with her daughter Siana, Joannah went travelling around California for six months, participating in erosion mitigation and soil restoration methods at Quail Springs, a natural building workshop in Santa Barbara, mushroom inoculation in Ojai and some serious investigating into school gardens such as the Edible School Yard at the Martin Luther King Jnr Middle School in Berkley and the Lifelab at Santa Cruz University.

Joannah has lived at Kivulini for many years but more recently found herself growing frustrated at the lack of a welcoming space for those interested in permaculture in Nairobi. Porini Permaculture germinated in early 2016 and aims to solve this problem in provding a space, a home and a hub for anything and everything permaculture.
